Prevention and protection are the primary responsibilities of the EMA. This department works to reduce loss of life and damage to property from all hazards including natural disasters, acts of terrorism and other man-made catastrophes.

EMA also supports Macon County in a risk-based, comprehensive emergency management system that addresses the following with our Macon County Hazard Mitigation Plan:

  • MITIGATION – lessening the effects of an incident before it happens
  • PREPAREDNESS – taking steps to ensure the county is ready in case of a disaster through training, practice and dissemination of information to the public
  • RESPONSE - actions taken during an incident
  • RECOVERY – getting the affected area and population back to normal

Designed to notify those in the path of dangerous weather through text messaging, email, voice calls or mobile apps, Alabama SAF-T-Net alerts subscribers for up to four monitored locations – when and where it matters.
